Periscope is all the rage these days. It’s the new, live streaming app that was developed by Twitter in early 2015. This is a very unique platform that allows users to share their lives in real time, regardless of where they are. So it’s just like sharing a streaming ‘periscope’ to anyone who wants to watch. 🙂

Unlike many other streaming platforms, Periscope is very simple to use and best of all, it’s completely free too. All you have to do is to simply download the Periscope app from the Appstore of your choice, be it iTunes or Android, then just register your account.

One of the cool things about Periscope is that since it’s owned by Twitter, so if you also already have a Twitter account, your followers who are also using the app will be imported to your Periscope app. If you don’t want to log in with your Twitter handle, you can use your phone number instead.

The app gives you push notifications when one of your followers, or someone you have chosen to follow, is broadcasting live. This allows you to tune in to their ‘scope’. If you don’t know someone on Periscope, you can still watch selected live and pre-recorded videos. During live streaming, you can “like” a video by clicking on it, and a little colored heart will appear on the screen. So hearts are the equivalent of likes on Periscope. 😉

You can also comment on the videos, and just like any other social media, this makes it a highly interactive experience for all. Once the live broadcast is completed, Periscope will store the videos for up to 24 hours for your followers to watch them in case they missed your live telecast. They can provide feedback, and you can also save the videos to your mobile device and then upload them again later to your website or to your other social media platforms.

Now, because Periscope is still a relatively new platform, there still aren’t that many people on it as compared to Facebook and Twitter, but that’s surely going to change over time. As more and more people strive to share their thoughts, skills, interests with the rest of the world, it will also keep growing as more people get connected.

The real beauty of Periscope lies in its sheer ease of use. You simply turn on the camera when you want to broadcast your live telecast, then turn it off when you’re done. Besides reaching out to your followers, you can even reach out to other curious users who stumble upon your broadcasts too, since anyone can watch any public broadcast that is being aired. So that’s one of the key points here that will help you gain more exposure on Periscope.

If too many people join in to watch and comment, the broadcast will get too ‘busy’, and the comments feature will only be made available to the early birds, while later viewers will not be allowed to comment.

Similar to Facebook, you can restrict who can view your broadcasts by adjusting the privacy level, hiding the location of the broadcast and restricting the viewers by selecting your followers individually. This is ideal for hosting coaching and video training, since you can view the comments and reply in the live broadcast immediately.

Thanks to Periscope, video marketing will become even more mobile and interactive than ever before . It’s use and potential are limited only by your imagination, and the terms and conditions of the app itself. You can certainly expect to see this app being used by more people in very different and creative ways over the next few years. You can get a share of that action too below.
